Welcome to IDL™ 4-week interdisciplinary course designed for educators, librarians, caregivers & community leaders to confidently choose literature that support diverse student communities.

 

Course Overview



Participants will learn tools to purposefully select diverse and inclusive Pre-K to 12 literature.



Creating a safe space for children & youth

Use stories as tools that build cultural & community trust through addressing chronically overlooked topics, including:

  • empathy & compassion

  • diversity & inclusion

  • social justice & equity for marginalized communities

  • mental wellness / mental health

  • anti-racism education

  • decolonization & reconciliation

  • gender & sexual identity / fluidity | 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

  • access & empowerment

  • intersectionality & cultural accountability

  • allyship & interdependence

  • environmental responsibility

  • community engagement


Community Engagement Activities

You will have the opportunity to practice your using your new lens in your community!

  • Investigate the impact of the illustrator’s lens.

  • Curate a booklist of titles that support a cause or community you find challenging to relate to.

Learn how to engage diversity & inclusion values through BIPOC Economics.
